Don't sweat it: simple ways to style your favourite sweaters!

While the Sydney weather still allows for us to bare skin in dresses and singlets, we’re well into Autumn now, and as the mercury starts to drop, sweaters are quickly becoming our best friends. Once upon a time, the only sweaters anyone wore were those grandma knitted and sent us for Christmas. But let’s just say, Grandma was onto something!  Sweaters are one of this season’s biggest must-haves for both men and women. Not only are they perfect for throwing on on those lazy days, but they are extremely versatile and can be styled for almost any occasion. “How?” you ask?! Here are just a few ways we like to personalise our basic, and definitely one of the most worn sweaters in our wardrobe.

Collars
Whether it be a collared blouse or dress, peeping a collar over the top of your sweater adds a cute touch to what would otherwise be plain and boring. Experiment with different colours, styles such as Peter Pan collars, and even textures such as lace, studded or sequined collars!

Statement Necklace
What better way to style a trend than with another trend?! Statement necklaces and sweaters are a match made in heaven. During the colder months many of us tend to turn to duller palettes. But necklaces, like the bright pink one we've got on, add the perfect touch of colour to brighten your look and jazz it up for the fanciest of occassions.

 Scarf
Scarves are the optimal functional accessory. The infinite patterns and styles of scarves out there mean you can personalise your winter look, while staying super cosy!

So next time you decide to throw on a sweater, make sure you remember our quick and simple tips to turn lounge wear into an outfit fit for any occassion.

Style Snag: Emma Rockson

 We thought we'd embrace our inner rock chick this week and bring you an outfit inspired by the always fashionable Emma Watson. We'll be the first to admit that this tartan mini and biker jacket look is way out of our comfort zones and definitely something we would not usually wear. But tartan is making a comeback this season and we've made it our mission to bring you the latest and greatest trends, so here you are.

As you can probably tell by Emma's pixie haircut, this outfit is an older one. But walking through stores and seeing tartan flannels and dresses immediately brought this edgy red carpet look to mind.

Emma has to be one of our style icons, rarely putting a foot wrong when it comes to fashion, and this Alexander McQueen dress was no exception.

Elegance..."Forget about the price tag"

Do you ever find yourself lusting over celebrity wardrobes, thinking that your pockets are not deep enough to replicate their style? Well erase that thought, because today we are going to show you that, in Jessie J's words, it "Ain't about the cha-ching, cha-ching". For us, when it comes to fashion, elegance and style is not defined by the label or price tag. While we've swooned over the style of many A-listers, we've also witnessed our fair share of fashion flops... so clearly, money doesn't buy style.

In all our shopping ventures we've discovered countless pieces that would definitely give any designer threads a run for their money. One of our favourite finds has to be this pale pink lace dress from Portmans.

Lace is a feminie fabric that can be styled to look elegant with delicate accessories, or edgy with heavy metal pieces. The nude, knotted wedge sandals in our look adds to the elegance with the sleeves making this the perfect dress for an Autumn wedding. We thought that it would also be worth mentioning that this dress was originally $119.95, but we snagged this beauty for an awesome $20.97!! That's a massive 83% off!!  How's that for a bargain?!

So remember that what makes a winning outfit is not its price, but how you wear it. The best accessory for any outfit is confidence, and if you have that, then you're guaranteed to have every celebrity green with envy!

We've got a 'Passion For Fashion '

We trust you've had a wonderful and productive week, because we certainly have! When we found out that Money Supermarket were hosting the Passion for Fashion competition, we thought it would make for a great post and so we immediately got cracking, scrolling through countless pages of our favouirte sites for the trendiest bargains we could find.

As part of this competition we were challenged to find 3 outfits for 3 different occasions (Casual, Party and Holiday wear) with a budget of £200 each ($295.41AUD). As self-confessed frugal fashionistas, we were eager to take on the challenge.

We had tons of fun putting this post together and found loads of nice pieces along the way. Be sure to check out Money Supermarket for more about the competition.So without further ado, here are our pocketfriendly outfits...

Casual Wear: 'Casual Chic'
This outfit is the perfect mix of girly and edgy. Coloured, distressed, ombred and studded. Denim in all its forms is now bigger than ever, which inspired this outfit. This is the perfect causal ensemble. The layering of the tank, vest and scarf make it look like you have put in more effort than you really have. Stack bracelets are a simple solution for accessorising on the run and the combat boots add a fun edginess to what would be a great festival outfit.

    Total= $142.39 OR £96.40

Party wear: ' Party Rockin' '
This was the priciest of our 3 outfits, with the dress making up the bulk of the cost. But when we first stumbled across this panelled shift dress we instantly fell in love. This head turning dress is extremely versatile which we think justifies its hefty price tag...right??! Perfect for the party season, this bold and comtemporary outfit incorporates two of the biggest current fashion trends-the black and white monochrome and a pastel palette. We kept the accessories to a minimal to let the dress shine, but the suede heels and bright lip inject just the right amount of colour.

Disco Hardcase Clutch: $17.47 OR £11.83  from Colette
Cameo Lolita Dress: $129 OR £87.34 from David Jones

Total= $213.37 OR £144.46

Holiday Wear: 'Let's go to the beach'
What better way to work up a tan (safely, of course!)than in style! Like most of you, we are great lovers of the floral trend, and with the bikini we knew that we wanted to find something in line with this trend, but also thought we would go for something more unique. Our search for the bikini was lengthy, but we found the perfect one in River Island's Minit Donatella Bikini. The floral appliques add a cute touch, and were definitely what won us over! The light dress serves as a great coverup when you're moving between the surf and sand, and along with the other accessories, will have you set up for a day at the beach.

Bow Wrap Floppy Hat $10.50 OR £7.11 from Wet Seal

Our Little Black Dress

Every girl should have a trusty LBD ('Little Black Dress') in her wadrobe, but not every girl has deep pockets. While a black dress is one item we believe you can afford to splurge on, we did not have to look far for this Just Jeans dress which you could almost buy with your loose change (on sale to ONLY $10!!).

At first glance this LBD looks quite simple, but the knotted back and sequined detailing make for a versatile dress that can be dressed down for a casual lunch date or bedazzled for a fancy night out.

 Here we've chosen to pair the dress with blue suede sandals for a bohemianesque look.

 Unlike your typical LBD that only gets whipped out for the occasional soiree, this particular number is appropriate for just about any occassion, and for the price tag we can't complain!
