Tackling the End of Season Sales!

The end of season sales are fast approaching. Summer is drawing to an end and autumn and winter stock is slowly beginning to filter into stores. Retailers are completely aware of how willingly we are to make impulse purchases, sucked in by the hype of the sales. They take advantage of this and plaster stores in “Sale” signs, hoping to tempt you into buying something you’ll probably regret once your heart palpitations stop and you are no longer blinded by the frenzy of the sales.
But never fear, we have some great tips to prepare you to brave the sales and come away with great bargains that will serve you for many seasons to come.

1.     AUDIT YOUR WARDROBE AND MAKE A LIST
Stocktake your wardrobe and see what you already have. Often you will find that there will be things you bought in the previous summer sales hanging up with price tags still attached, and others you’ve only worn once or twice. After auditing your wardrobe make a list of particular prints, colours, etc that you may be missing. This will keep you focused in store and prevent you from getting overwhelmed by the excessive red sale signage. Make sure that items on your list are versatile and something you will get a lot of wear out of. You should be able to list a few items already in your wardrobe with which it can be paired with. If not, leave it off your list.
2.     SET A BUDGET
How much are you willing to spend? Particularly if your shopping with your credit card, specify a limit because let’s face it, nothing will ruin your shopping experience more than a debt hangover.
3.    COMFY CLOTHES
Elbow pads and boxing gloves are optional, but remember to wear something comfortable and practical. Our go to outfits for big sales are singlets and skirts or a dress which allow you to dodge the long queues for fitting rooms. These two options allow you to try tops and jackets over your outfit as well as skirts, jeans and shorts underneath it. For shoes we also like our most comfortable pair of slip on sandals or thongs/flip flops so that there are no fiddly laces or buckles to slow you down when trying on shoes. This brings us to another point; ALWAYS try on clothes before buying them. No matter how great the bargain and how good it may look on the mannequin you may find it less than flattering on yourself.
4.     STAY CALM
Do not get overwhelmed by signs and tags highlighting sales. Stick to your list and budget, and make sure what you are getting is a good discount. Let’s admit, even when we do start a shopping trip with a list we can deviate from it time to time. Don’t make this a habit. If you do decide to buy something make sure it’s not an impulse decision made in the frenzy of the sale. You still need to think about how versatile it is, how well will it go with other items already in your wardrobe and whether you can live without it. If you are unsure, leave it behind and if you find yourself day dreaming about that dress or pair of shoes than you can always revisit the stores. You may find yourself getting an even greater bargain with the further reductions at the end of the sales. Also be aware of store return policies just in case you change your mind.
5.     REVIEW PURCHASES
When you get home try on the day’s buys once again before wearing anything and removing tags. Make sure that the clothes fit you well, because once the hooha of the sale dies down and the adrenaline fades, you may often find yourself changing your mind and realising that maybe the mustard and avocado striped shirt doesn’t really flatter your body. Most stores should let you return anything as long as it is unworn and the tags are still attached. Make sure you keep your receipts and return your purchase as soon as possible otherwise that unflattering top might just become a permanent piece in your wardrobe. Let’s face it, there’s nothing worse than buyer’s remorse.

Keep in mind these basic tips when you’re out shopping the sales and you’ll definitely be keeping more money in your pocket – where it belongs.
Happy shopping!

Look Book: Valentine's Day

Valentine’s day is fast approaching and for some romantics it is the biggest day on the calendar. So we thought we could help take the head ache out of deciding what to wear. To all the Valentine’s Day lovers and haters, whether you’ll be spending time with your man doing what love birds do, or just hanging out with girlfriends celebrating singledom, we have a few great ideas for this 14th of February.

OUTFIT 1:

For us this first outfit represents everything about Valentine’s Day. The blush tones and floral print of the dress create a flirty but romantic and feminine look. Paired with simple accessories, the dress is definitely the star of the outfit.
When planning for a date stilettos are often the first shoe of choice that comes to mind, however, they do not come close to wedge shoes when considering the comfort factor. Aside from it being a comfy alternative, a primary benefit of wedges is its versatility. The perfect pair of wedge shoes can take you from a casual date to a romantic dinner date. The tan colour of these particular wedges complements the soft hues in the dress and make for a perfect Valentine’s Day date outfit.

OUTFIT 2:

A perfectly fitted sheath skirt will do wonders for your midsection. Hugging in all the right places, this beige lace sheath skirt allows you to flaunt your body in a classy manner. Remember, when putting together an outfit keep it balanced. When wearing something fitted on the lower half, opt for a looser top and vice versa. Here we have paired the skirt with a looser sheer top which balances out the outfit and keeps it from being overly saucy!! The fuchsia colour adds a bright pop of colour and provides a nice contrast with the clean beige of the skirt.

OUTIFIT 3:

The final outfit is very Rachel Bilson-esque. Whether you dress them up or down, capris or boyfriend jeans make for a relaxed and casual look that is still incredibly chic. This comfy alternative to our much loved skinny denim means we no longer have to wriggle our way into our jeans.  The embroidered detailing adds the right balance of femininity to what is otherwise a dressed down look and prevents it from crossing the fine line between casual and daggy! The pearl earrings and brown sandals also help add a girly touch and offset the relaxed look.

Hopefully with these fabulous ideas, no matter who you're with and what you're doing this Valentine's Day, you'll be doing it in style!

Styling a plain white t-shirt: Transform your plain white t’s from boring to colourful and exciting!

A staple item that we think should have a firm place in every girl’s wardrobe is a plain white t-shirt. Not only is it easy to style for different occasions, but it is also trans-seasonal, so you can get great wear out of it throughout the entire year. A white t-shirt and other basics like this are items we think you can afford to invest a little more in. It is important to know how to style a white t-shirt so we have put together some outfits suitable for different occasions

OUTFIT #1: SHOPPING

This high-waisted tulip skirt is ultra-flattering , cinching at what is generally the smallest part of your body, creating the illusion of a smaller waist. The floral skirt adds colour to what would otherwise be a plain look. The accessories are simple, allowing the skirt to be the salient feature of the outfit. Bags such as this apricot pink bag are an ideal size for a quick spot of shopping, and again allow the skirt to take centre stage. Longer straps allow the bag to be worn on the shoulder or across the body which is practical for shopping.

OUTFIT #2: DATE

Deciding on an outfit for a date really depends on where and what you will be doing. You definitely wouldn’t wear the same thing to dinner at a fancy restaurant as you would to a picnic. Let’s face it; nothing’s worse than getting your 6 inch heels stuck in the grass and ending up face first in the dirt.
The outfit we put together is a bit more casual and perfect for lunch or a stroll in the park. The scarf is definitely the centrepiece of this outfit. We feel like accessories help pull an outfit together and make for a chic but effortless look. The bright floral printed scarf adds a pop of colour for a fun and flirtatious feel. The gold detailing of the cream flats adds a little class while still remaining casual and comfortable, appropriate for any romantic adventure.

OUTFIT #3: GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT

The right pair of skinny jeans is flattering on most body types, and just like our favourite models everyone should own at least one pair to create the illusion of slender modelesque legs. Coloured denim is very much on trend, and for this autumn and winter warmer hues such as ox blood are a must have. The statement gold bib necklace dresses up the outfit and ties the whole look together. To further elongate your legs go for a pair of nude heels, but we opted for our black heels which we thought makes for an edgy look. A navy blue or black blazer is optional for cooler nights. Roll up the sleeves to enhance the edgy look of the overall outfit. The black lace clutch, which is one of the girlier elements of the outfit, perfectly balances out the edginess.

Now that you’ve read this blog post we hope that you no longer see a plain white t-shirt as that, plain and boring. It is far more than its name suggests. Like a blank canvas, a white t-shirt is the beginnings of an endless number of outfits. With the right accessories, a white t-shirt can make for a perfect outfit for any occasion. But most importantly, when choosing an outfit no matter what the occasion we believe that one accessory will always keep you looking your best- confidence!
